Meet Derrick Harris
Hello, my name is Derrick Harris, and I’m proud to be a native of Atlanta, Georgia, born and raised. My journey began at Brown High School and Washington High School, followed by college studies in computer science at DeKalb College and DeKalb Technical College. While pursuing my education, I worked various jobs, including cutting grass, working in grocery stores (specifically in the seafood and meat department), and even venturing into self-employment to make ends meet.
Over the years, I’ve explored a wide range of industries, from sales at Wolf Camera to car insurance and financial services with Primerica. At one point, I was offered an internship at a local radio station but chose to take a different path. Eventually, I mastered sales and transitioned into real estate in 2002, a field I’ve passionately worked in ever since.
My Real Estate Journey
I started my real estate career by learning to buy and sell investment properties. My first property—a house I received for free—kickstarted my journey. The homeowner handed me the keys, signed the documents, and didn’t ask for a dime. Though the house had no equity, I flipped it to another investor and earned $1,500 in just five minutes. That experience opened my eyes to the potential of real estate investing.
Since then, I’ve specialized in fixing and flipping homes, earned my real estate license, and worked extensively in foreclosures, collaborating with several REO companies and banks. Over 15 years, I’ve gained deep experience in Metro Atlanta’s real estate market. Today, I continue to invest in properties, assist homeowners in selling their homes by leveraging innovative renovation programs, and work with buyers and investors to find the right opportunities.
Expanding Into the Mortgage Industry
In addition to real estate, I’ve entered the mortgage industry to better serve my clients. My mission is to help:
- Current homeowners refinance to reduce debt, access cash, and improve their financial situation.
- New homeowners secure the best mortgage programs to achieve their dream of homeownership, whether it’s a starter home or their forever home.
